The carbon dissolves into the flux and crystallises around the seed, forming a real diamond.

CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition): A diamond seed is placed inside a chamber filled with carbon-rich gases. The chamber is heated to around 800 to 900 degrees Celsius, and carbon atoms from the gas begin depositing onto the seed layer by layer, growing a diamond from the ground up.

Both methods produce diamonds with the same atomic structure. The process is different; the result, structurally speaking, is the same mineral.

Growth morphology: Mined diamonds grow in eight crystallographic planes, HPHT diamonds in fourteen, and CVD diamonds in one. Once a diamond has been cut and polished, these growth patterns are no longer visible to the naked eye. But specialised spectroscopic equipment can still detect the residual signatures of how the diamond grew.
